Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the person fatally shot in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and South Street has been identified as **Mr. Michael Shendock, 38, of Voorhees (Camden County)**.
According to police, on Sunday, Sept. 23rd at approximately 2:48 a.m., Newark Police officers responded to a report of shots fired.
Authorities say when officers arrived, they discovered two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both men were taken to University Hospital where doctors pronounced Shendock dead at 5:32 a.m.
The second man, whose name is not being released at this time, was treated and survived his injuries police said.
The investigation, which is active and ongoing, is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and include detectives from the Newark Police Department.
Police say so far, no arrests have been made.
