Firefighters in Newark battled a raging 2-alarm fire that ignited inside a vacant house in Newark’s South Ward this afternoon.
Heavy fire tore through the second floor of a two and a a shalf story house at 577 Hawthorne Avenue at around 1 p.m. sending firefighters to the scene where they encountered intense flames ripping through the structure.
Crews were able to make their ways into the house where a search indicated no trapped or injured occupants.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in under an hour with no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
