Two Arrested in Newark Anti-Violence Operation

Newark

Police in Newark are announcing the arrests of Mr. Jamar Hall, 34, and Mr. Samaad Blanding, 26, as part of an ongoing anti-violence operation Friday.

Officials say Newark Police Division detectives arrested Hall in the area of Astor and Brunswick streets after they found him in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.

Police say Hall faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices (hollow points).

According to police, Blanding is charged with Hindering Apprehension.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

According to some data released by police, officers have recovered 411 handguns to date in 2018 versus 363 recovered during the same period in 2017. This reflects a 13 percent increase in guns recovered this year over last year police said.

“We are relentlessly committed to removing illegal guns from our streets,” Director Ambrose said. “I’m proud that the detectives involved in this anti-violence operation are leaving no stone unturned in doggedly investigating and confiscating weapons in our communities. We will not tolerate senseless acts of violence committed by those willing to jeopardize the safety of our neighbors and visitors by bringing illegal guns into our city,” he added.
