An Atlantic County Grand Jury returned a 6 count Indictment Tuesday against Leon Green, 27, for the murder of one male and the attempted murder of another male.
Green is indicted on the following charges:
1st degree Attempted Murder
3rd degree Aggravated Assault/Attempt to Cause Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon
2nd degree Possession of a Firearm for Unlawful Purposes
2nd degree Possession of a Handgun without a Permit
1st degree Murder
2nd degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose
Officials says June 1, 2018, Atlantic City Police officers responded to a call for a male who had been shot at the Fox Manor Hotel on Pacific Avenue. Upon arrival, they located Yusef Abdullah, 22, of Atlantic City with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the intended target of the shooting had been James Waugh, 27, of Atlantic City. Waugh did not suffer injury in the shooting but Abdullah succumbed to his injuries nearly 6 weeks later on July 8, 2018.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Atlantic City Police Department. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Danielle S. Buckley represents the state in the matter.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
