Newark Metro Division Officers Save Overdosed Man Using Narcan

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that on Saturday afternoon, officers assigned to the Metro Division saved the life of a man by administering NARCAN to him.

According to a statement released by Director Ambrose, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 blocks of Broad Street on a call of a sick person.

Director Ambrose said officers located a man who passed out at that location.

The unresponsive victim exhibited shallow breathing and a pale skin tone before the officers administered one dose of NARCAN to the man’s nose.

Director Ambrose said the man began to breathe and became responsive.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for further treatment.

“The Division has been using NARCAN since it was approved state-wide. Our officers have saved multiple lives as a result of training and keen observation. I am proud of the work of the men and women of the Newark Police Division,” said Director Ambrose.
