A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning and charged with this weekend’s murder of Eric Rue, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.
According to authorities, Mycol Beckett, of Trenton, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree certain persons not to possess a handgun. He is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center pending a detention hearing.
The charges are a result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, specifically lead Detective Scott Rich of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials say, warrants were issued on September 3 and Beckett was taken into custody by Trenton police early this morning during a motor vehicle stop.
According to police, at approximately 8:05 a.m. on September 1st, Trenton police responded to the corner of Morris and Commonwealth avenues on the report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle.
Upon arrival, they located the victim, later identified as 34-year-old Rue of Bensalem, Pa., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body area. Rue was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he died a short time later.
Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
