Police in Irvington are on the search for a suspect wanted for an assault that occurred in the Township during the overnight hours.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Howard Street and Nye Avenue to investigate reports of an injured person at that location.
Units arrived at the scene and found a male victim suffering an armed injury after an unidentified suspect brandished a sharp object and began to attack according to reports.
Township police with the assistance from the Essex County Sheriff's Office canvassed the area for the suspects, but there were no reports of arrests.
EMS transported the victim to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
