Authorities in Newark apprehended two suspects who pulled off a brazen daylight carjacking in Newark on Tuesday.
According to preliminary reports, fast responding Newar Police officers patrolling the city's Central and West Ward border were alerted by witnesses that two suspects approached the driver of a vehicle at gunpoint on Fairmount Avenue at around 1:45 p.m. and took their car.
Police officials blanketed the area with officers in search of the vehicle where they ultimately located the car in the vicinity of 15th Avenue and South 11th with two male suspects bailing from the vehicle.
Officers engaged in a brief foot chase swiftly captured both suspects on South 10th Street.
After a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found a loaded weapon and a fake firearm according to preliminary reports.
The suspects were taken to the precinct for processing.
There were no physical injuries reported. The incident remains under investigation.
