Detectives from the NJ State Police are investigating a crash that caused the death of a person on a highway in Newark on Sunday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, the crash happened at approximately 4:45 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-78 near exit 14 in Newark sending emergency responders to the scene where they found a severely injured person inside a vehicle after a crash that occurred at that location.
Crews extricated the unconscious and unresponsive person from the vehicle who was pronounced dead a short time later.
State police said they are currently investigating the official cause of the crash and will have further information later Monday morning.
There were no other severe injuries reported.
