Newark Police Officials are reporting that members of the Police Division’s Emergency Services Unit saved the life of a 63-year-old East Orange man by administering Narcan to him on Monday.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, shortly before 10 a.m., Police Officers K. Herder and J. Doherty responded to a call for service at Lincoln Street near Eagles Parkway.
Director Ambrose said the officers observed the victim lying on the street -in a semi-conscious state- with his breathing shallow.
"The officers administered one dose of Narcan to the victim and he became responsive and alert," Director Ambrose said.
EMS transported the victim to St. Michael’s Hospital for further treatment according to Director Ambrose.
“I’m grateful that these officers are well-trained and equipped to administer Narcan whenever they encounter a victim in need,” Director Ambrose said. “I commend them both for their responsiveness, saving the life of this victim.”
