UPDATE: Fort Lee Driver Jumps Curb in Linden, Strikes Elizabeth Woman

A 51-year-old Elizabeth woman was transported to an area hospital with injuries after a man lost control of his vehicle before jumping the curb, subsequently striking her.

According to authorities, at approximately 3:40 p.m. today, Linden Police and Fire units responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision on the 1600 block of East St. George Avenue.

Officials say that based on a preliminary investigation, a 2014 Range Rover was traveling east on E. St. George Avenue when it lost control and struck a woman on the sidewalk.

The vehicle then collided with a utility pole and flipped onto its side.

 Police identified the victim, as a 51-year-old woman from Elizabeth, who was ultimately transported to University Hospital in Newark with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Fort Lee, was not injured in the crash.

 According to authorities, E. St. George Avenue was closed between Nora Drive and Garfield Street until approximately 8:30 p.m.

Officials say several residents are without power as a result of the crash. PSE&G is working to restore power, but repairs are expected to take several hours. E. St. George Avenue will remain partially closed between Nora Drive and Grant Street with one lane open in each direction.
