A 28-years-old Paterson man was arrested on August 22nd in connection with a shooting investigation that took place July 29th in the area of Union Avenue and Jasper Street Paterson.
Authorities charged Ervin Torre with Attempted Murder, First Degree (2 counts), Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree, and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Third Degree.
Officials say that on July 29th, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Redwood Avenue Paterson, NJ on a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, police located a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, both of Paterson, at the corner of Union Avenue and Jasper Street who had both sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Officials say the victims were immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.
According to authorities, based on the investigation Torre was identified as the shooter and arrested August 22nd.
The sentencing exposure for Torre on First Degree Attempted Murder is 10-20 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of those terms to be served before parole pursuant to the No Early Release Act and 5 years parole supervision; on Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 42 months before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 42 months of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Third Degree Certain Persons not to Possess a Firearm it is 3-5 years New Jersey State Prison.
Officials say Ervin Torre is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on August 23rd at 1:30, p.m. The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
