Adan Otero was sentenced Friday for multiple charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of Children, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
According to authorities, Adan Otero was sentenced to 17 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act. Following an evaluation at Avenel he was determined to be repetitive and compulsive and therefore was sentenced under the purview of the New Jersey Sex Offender Act. He faces the potential of civil commitment upon his release from prison.
Officials on February 9, 2018, Otero, 27, pleaded guilty to four counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. As part of the plea agreement Otero received a recommendation of 17 years under the No Early Release Act.
Over a period of several months in the spring of 2016, Otero sexually assaulted four juvenile victims in various locations in Atlantic City. He pleaded guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child in connection to a fifth victim. The victims were all under the age of 10. Otero is in custody in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of bail as this was a pre-bail reform case.
