Port Authority Police are investigating the cause of a bus fire that occurred on a highway in the city overnight.
Firefighters rushed to the eastbound lanes of Route 495 near the toll plaza at around 9:30 p.m. according to preliminary reports.
Fire Crews and police arrived at the scene and found a bus from the Peter Pan bus company fully involved in flames with all the occupants off of the bus and on the side of the roadway.
Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the fire but not before the blaze caused massive delays on the highway due to police closing all lanes.
The bus fire happened just days after state highway officials closed already congested lanes on Route 495 due to needed repairs to the deteriorating North Bergen bridge.
There were no injuries reported.
