A double shooting that occurred in a Newark South Ward neighborhood overnight now has detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office searching for the suspect/s responsible for one of the victim's fatality.
Gunfire erupted in the 300 block of Schley Street at approximately 9:02 p.m. sending several police units to the scene where officers quickly taped off the area after locating two people struck by bullets according to preliminary reports.
EMS rushed both males to University Hospital where one of the victim's died at around midnight reports said.
Back at the crime scene, police canvassed the area searching for additional victims and possible suspects; neither were found.
Detectives collected about a dozen shell casings at the scene and are continuing to look into the motive for the shooting.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
