An overnight incident where a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian on a street in Linden is under investigation.
According to a statement released by Linden Police officials, at approximately 11:45 P.M. on Sunday night, Linden Police units responded to the scene of a serious auto-pedestrian crash on the 400 block of Raritan Road.
Officials say an initial investigation indicated that a 2003 Chrysler Minivan was traveling east when it fatally collided with a man who was the roadway.
Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Eric Mathis of Roselle, was treated on scene by Linden Fire Department personnel then transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth where doctors later pronounced him deceased.
Police say the driver of the car, a 72-year-old man from Clark, was not injured in the crash.
