There is an active investigation underway into a pedestrian strike that left one person dead in Newark overnight.
It happened in the vicinity of 611 Frelinghuysen Avenue at approximately 1:35 a.m. where emergency responder rushed to the area after receiving reports of a person injured.
Upon their arrival, they found the severely injured person laying on the ground at that location according to preliminary reports.
Medical staff pronounced the unidentified person dead at the scene.
Investigators for Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene to handle the investigation which remains active and ongoing.
