Crash Causes Gas Manifold to Rupture in Linden

Linden

A car crash in Linden Wednesday morning ruptured a gas manifold then caused an explosion-like noise.

According to police, at approximately 11:45 a.m. Linden police and fire units responded to the 800 block of North Wood Avenue on reports of a possible gas explosion.

Upon arrival, units quickly determined that a gas manifold in front of a local business had ruptured as a result of a motor vehicle crash.

Officials say the leak caused a loud noise, but there was no explosion or fireball as initially reported.

The gas was shut off by Linden Fire Department personnel without further incident.

According to a press release, one of the drivers, a 43-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries as a result of the crash but no other injuries were reported.

Officials say North Wood Avenue and the surrounding streets have since been reopened.
