Police in Brick are attempting to determine the cause of a crash that had several people injured at a Chinese store in Brick overnight.
According to a statement released by Brick Police, the vehicle was in the parking lot of 2132 Route 88 and attempting to back out of a parking space at approximately 1:45 a.m.
Police say the crash occurred when the driver lost control of his vehicle and drove into Lo’s Garden restaurant then struck two employees who were standing inside the restaurant.
According to police, the employees were thrown into the kitchen area where they suffered severe injuries.
Brick Township Police Emergency Medical Services along with MONOC Paramedics responded to transport the employees to Jersey Shore University Medical Center police said.
Police say Laurelton Fire Company responded to assist while Brick Township Building Department personnel arrived at the scene to check on the building, which was deemed safe after their inspection.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation but it appears the driver may have mistakenly put his vehicle into drive instead of reverse.
Police say alcohol or drugs nor cell phone usage appeared to be a factor in the crash.
