An overnight shooting that sent multiple people to the hospital in Jersey City is under investigation.
According to preliminary reports, nearly a half dozen people were injured when gunfire rang out in the vicinity of Lexington Avenue and John F. Kennedy Boulevard just before 2 a.m.
Police say hospital officials contacted authorities when about three people arrived at Jersey City Medical Center suffering gunshot wounds. The victims reported to police that they came under fire while on JFK Boulevard just before reaching the hospital.
Police arrived at the scene and found two additional victims suffering gunshot wounds after a gunman fired off about two dozen rounds in the area according to reports.
All of the injured are reportedly in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
There were no arrests made.
JCPD UPDATED 10AM: JCPD officers responded to the area of Lexington Avenue & Kennedy Boulevard at approximately 2 a.m. on June 30th. Two victims were brought to the Jersey City Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and three shooting victims were dropped off at the medical center by an unknown vehicle separately. All victims were part of the same incident and were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
