UPDATE: Scotch Plains Man Dies in Route 18 Colts Neck Car Crash

Police in Colts Neck are investigating a crash that killed a Union County man overnight.

Police say a 42-year-old Scotch Plains man died Friday night as a result of a single-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of State Highway 18, at exit 19A, at approximately 9:20 pm.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling from State Highway 34 south onto State Highway 18 south, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the median guardrail.

Medical staff pronounced the driver, Mr. Robert Jeans, dead at the scene. Police say three other occupants were treated for minor injuries and transported to local hospitals.

As a result of the crash, the southbound lanes of State Highway 18 were closed for several hours for the investigation to be conducted.

The investigation is being conducted by the Colts Neck Police Traffic and Detective Bureaus.
