Citizen Complaints Result in Arrest of Three for Weapons, Drug Possession

Police in Newark reports the arrests of three city residents; two for possession of loaded handguns the other for possession of narcotics.

According to police, the weekend operation was the result of citizen complaints regarding drug sales in their communities.

Police say the ongoing operation is aimed at removing guns and drugs from our city streets while enhancing the quality of life for residents.

According to authorities on May 27th, just before 8:00 p.m., detectives in the 200 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard, gathered information on an unknown male in the area with a gun.

Police say as they approached the male, later identified as Mr. Dequan Meadows, 19, of Newark, he attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Police say Meadows had a loaded .357 magnum revolver in his possession when they arrested and charged him with the unlawful possession of a handgun, resisting arrest and obstruction.

According to police later the same night, at 10:30 p.m., detectives assigned to Criminal Intelligence were in the area of Bergen Street and Harding Terrace when they observed Joshua Hunter, 23, of Newark, near the bodega.

Police say as Hunter turned to walk away, detectives noticed he had a gun on him.

Officers swiftly arrested then charged Hunter with the unlawful possession of a loaded .22 caliber revolver. Hunter was also charged with having a defaced gun in his possession.

On May 26th, police say they arrested Mr. Blancsun Altidor, 25 after he was found in the possession of 495 decks of heroin in the area of Avon and Ridgewood avenues.

Police charged Altidor with the possession of CDS, distribution of CDS and distribution within 500 feet of public housing. $191.00 in suspected drug proceeds was confiscated.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
