Police set up a crime scene in the vicinity of Keer Avenue and Leslie Street and another crime scene on Nevada Street as officers searched the areas for evidence to support a motive for overnight shootings that sent two people to hospitals in Newark.
According to preliminary reports, officials from Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when a male victim suffering gunshot injuries arrived at the hospital suffering gunshot wounds shortly before 10:30 p.m.
While en route to the South Ward hospital, police were notified that a second victim was dropped off by private vehicle at University Hospital. Authorities say the Nevada Street victim was driven to University in a private vehicle.
The South Ward shooting victim advised police that while in the 300 block of Keer, a dark-colored vehicle occupied by black male suspects pulled up and began to fire shots at him then they sped away from the scene.
It is not clear if the same vehicle is wanted for the Nevada Street shooting at this time.
Police believe that the suspected car is a Ford Mustang and it was last observed heading westbound on Keer.
The motive for the shootings remains under investigation.
