Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Totowa Police Chief Robert Coyle announce that the body discovered at 340 Totowa Road in Totowa on May 15, 2018, has been identified by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark as Luis Rodrigues, a 22-year-old male from Paterson.
Police say on May 15th at approximately 1:21 p.m., members of the Totowa Police Department were called to 340 Totowa Road in Totowa by a concerned citizen regarding a strange odor coming from the vacant multi-family dwelling at that location.
Upon their arrival, officers located the body of what initially appeared to be a deceased female inside the building.
Due to the condition of the remains, an identification could not be confirmed at the scene, and the body was positively identified following an autopsy performed at the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s office in Newark authorities said.
Although a positive identification has been made, the manner and cause of death are still pending the results of additional tests. The preliminary results of the investigation suggest that there is no indication that the death is suspicious.
At this time, no suspects are being sought, and there is nothing to indicate that there is any danger to the public.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Totowa Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Medical Examiner’s Office. More information will be released once it becomes available.
