Police in Newark reports the arrest of Mr. Jonathan J. Morales, 26, of Newark, for an aggravated assault and weapon possession today.
According to a statement released by Newark Police, shortly after midnight, 5th Precinct police officers patrolling the 100-block of Chadwick Avenue heard shots fired.
Authorities say upon their arrival at the scene, they found that the suspect fired a shot at a male following a dispute then fled the scene on foot.
Officers apprehended Morales, in the area of West Bigelow and Seymour Avenue without further incident.
Police say they recovered two loaded 9mm handguns that were dropped by Morales while he fled the scene.
One of the recovered guns was reported stolen from Moncks Corner, South Carolina according to police.
Police say they found Morales in possession of four glassine envelopes of CDS heroin during the incident.
Authorities ultimately charged Morales with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Police further charged him with Aggravated Assault, CDS Possession and Receiving Stolen Property.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
