Police in Plainfield took a man into custody overnight after he barricaded himself inside a house in the city.
According to a preliminary statement released by police, at approximately 6:45 pm, Plainfield Police Division Patrol Units responded to a home in the 1400 Block of Coolidge Street in an attempt to arrest an individual on an arrest warrant for violating a restraining order out of Mercer County.
Police say upon their arrival, officers observed the suspect, Mr. Edward Lindsay outside of a family members residence. When Lindsay observed officers, he immediately entered the house and refused to come out.
According to police, there were no threats of violence to harm officers, himself or any other individuals.
The Union County SWAT Team and a member of the Plainfield Police Division were able to successfully negotiate Mr. Lindsay to surrender without incident at approximately 12:30 am police said.
Police are continuing to investigate.
