Car break-ins and auto-thefts are already on the rise this year, according to the Union Township Police Department.
According to police, the increase in thefts from unlocked cars was happening late night or in the early morning hours. With warmer weather, more people are wandering around looking for valuables in unlocked vehicles.
Officials added that just the other night police responded to five car burglaries in the area of Oakwood Parkway. Including a car theft, which was later recovered in Newark.
Also, Tuesday morning officers arrest a man in the area of Erhardt Street who allegedly went into several cars and stole various items.
Authorities remind residents to lock their cars and not to leave anything of value visible even if the car is parked in the driveway.
