Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of Andrew Okie, 24, of Pennsylvania, on gun-related charges, including the illegal sale of firearms and high capacity magazines, possession of assault rifles, unlawful possession of rifles, and the possession of high capacity magazines.
According to officials, in March 2018, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that Okie was involved in the sale of firearms. An investigation revealed that Okie was obtaining firearms, including assault rifles, in Pennsylvania, and selling them for profit.
Authorities said between March 2018 and May 2018, a Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Detective acting in an undercover capacity met with Okie in Bergen County on several occasions and purchased one Century Arms AK47 rifle, two Ruger AR15 rifles, one American Tactical AR15 rifle, seven high capacity firearm magazines, and more than one hundred rounds of ammunition (7.62 x 39MM and 5.56 x 45MM).
Police arrested Okie on May 5th and charged him with four counts of possession of an assault rifle, four counts of unlawful possession of a rifle, four counts of illegal sale of a firearm, seven counts of sale of a high capacity firearm magazine and seven counts of possession of a large capacity firearm magazine.
Officials said Okie was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on May 9th at 9 a.m.
Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
