Police have a large area taped off in the 800 block of South 14th Street as officers canvassed the scene for a male suspect who bailed from a vehicle that crashed after a police pursuit.
According to preliminary reports, Newark police spotted a white Jeep that was reportedly used in an armed carjacking at gunpoint in the 100 block of North 14th Street in East Orange before 10 pm
When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped away from police reports said.
Police followed the vehicle until it crashed in the vicinity of South 14th Street and Madison Avenue.
One person was rushed to University Hospital suffering life-threatening injuries but it is not immediately clear if the victim was occupying the vehicle being pursued at this time.
Police say there is an outstanding Black Ford Taurus with a reported NJ license plate number "N46-JTP", occupied by armed males, that was carjacked in East Orange.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified to assist in the investigation.
NPD1 Helicopter is up in the air searching at this time.
