Newark Police arrested 45-year-old Dawud Abid, of East Orange, for possession of a loaded .9mm handgun and possession of CDS.
According to police, they acted on citizen complaints of drug activity at the location, at approximately 5:40 a.m., detectives assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit responded to the area of Evergreen and Frelinghuysen avenues, where they observed Abid engage in a narcotics transaction.
Authorities say, detectives approached the suspect and seized a loaded .9mm handgun, 47 grams of cocaine, and 128 decks of heroin.
Police arrested Abid then charged him with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, certain persons not to possess a firearm, possession of a firearm while committing a CDS offense and two counts each of possession of CDS, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute and possession of CDS within 500 feet of public housing.
Additionally, police say they found $365.00 in drug proceeds on Abid.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
