Detectives for the NJ State Police are investigating a crash that left at least one person dead on the Garden State Parkway in Tinton Falls overnight.
Emergency responders rushed to the southbound lanes of the highway near mile marker 107.3 after they received reports of a crash with injuries.
Upon their arrival, they found a severely damaged overturned vehicle with an unconscious and unresponsive person outside the car shortly before 12:45 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, emergency medical technicians provided unsuccessful life-saving techniques before they pronounced the unidentified person dead at the scene.
The crash caused heavy traffic on the Parkway as police closed the road for the investigation.
The highway has since been reopened.
