Police Arrest Two Armed Robbery Suspects

Police in Newark arrested a 17-year-old male and Imani R. Mickel, 20, both of Newark, in connection with a robbery that occurred early this afternoon -Sunday-.

According to police, at approximately 3:30 p.m., while in the area of North 7th Street and 1st Avenue, residents flagged down Officer Wilmarie Rosario and advised him of an assault in progress.

Officer Rosario with the assistance of officers Michael DaSiva, Phil Turzani and Malikul Aziz, took two suspects into custody while one suspect remains at-large.

The victim told police that the trio tried to rob him of his personal items, when he refused they began to assault him.

Police charged the two suspects iwith robbery as they continue their search for the third suspect.

“The fast thinking of the citizen who flagged the officer down to report the assault attributed in two arrests. The citizen as well as the group of officers, working together have removed two violent criminals from our streets. I commend all involved for a job well done,” said Director Ambrose.

The charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

While police are actively investigating this incident, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing the third suspect from Newark streets.

Director Ambrose said the investigation is active and ongoing.
