The driver of a serious hit and run crash in Jersey City surrendered to authorities Monday afternoon.
According to officials, the Jersey City Police Department on Apr. 13th at approximately 1:20 a.m., received a report of motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Mallory and Lexington avenues in Jersey City with reports of possible injuries.
Responding officers observed that the collision in fact occurred at that location and involved several vehicles.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Burgundy Oldsmobile Aurora struck a White Plymouth Voyager. Several unoccupied parked cars were subsequently struck and a female passenger was ejected from the Plymouth.
Police said the passenger was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries and she remains there in guarded condition.
According to authorities, two suspects fled the Oldsmobile on foot. One of the suspects, who was identified as the passenger, was quickly located a short distance away and detained by police.
Police today announced that on Apr. 16th at approximately 3:45 p.m., the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run collision, turned himself in to members of the Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials arrested and charged Dashawn Ramsey, 25, of Jersey City, with Assault by Auto, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Park and Causing Serious Bodily Injury While Driving Privileges were Suspended.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
