The Essex County man responsible for the 2005 strangulation death of a Plainfield woman has been sentenced to 18 years in state prison for the crime, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Monday.
Officials said Dorian Gillon, 52, of Newark must serve at least 85 percent of that term before the possibility of parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.
According to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Jillian Reyes, who prosecuted the case, the body of 39-year-old Williametta Moore was found just inside the front door of her home on the 700 block of West Third Street in Plainfield on December 15, 2005.
Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division continued to jointly pursue leads, encompassing a long-term investigation led by Prosecutor’s Office Lt. Harvey Barnwell and investigator Vincent Byron.
As a result, in September 2013 Gillon was identified as a suspect and charged, Reyes said. He was arrested in Elizabeth without incident at that time, held in Union County Jail on $1 million bail, and was subsequently indicted by a grand jury in May 2014.
Officials said Gillon pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated manslaughter in December 2017.
