Police in Newark are on the search for the driver of a vehicle, that was reported stolen from a location in Nutly, who fled a police traffic stop on Sunday afternoon.
Details are continuing to develop, but according to preliminary reports, the incident happened just before 1:30 p.m., in the vicinity of Broadway and Montclair Avenue, where police attempted to pull over a vehicle for traffic violations.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle initially stopped, but while officers left their patrol car to investigate, the driver sped away from the scene.
Police reportedly followed for less than a block when they observed a male passenger fall from the vehicle and hit his head on the concrete causing serious injuries.
EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where the extent of his injury was only reported as severe.
The driver of the vehicle, a white 4-door 2017 Honda Civic, stolen from a location in Nutley continued to speed away after the victim fell from the car.
The car has a reported NJ license plate number "P64-JEZ".
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
