Seventeen families were rescued when a fire broke out at a building early Friday morning.
According to authorities, at approximately 2:49 a.m., firefighters responded to 793 Broadway, a mixed use 3-story building, for a fast moving fire.
Officials said by approximately 3:53 a.m., the fire was upgraded to 3-alarms after it quickly spread through the remainder of the building.
Firefighters placed the fire under control at 4:26 a.m. with the assistance of approximately 85 firefighters.
Fired officials say, one firefighter, was evaluated by EMS then released but no other injuries were reported.
The cause and nature of the fire will be investigated by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
Officials say, firefighters rescued 17 families, consisting of approximately 58 individuals.
