UPDATE: Jersey City Officer Dead from Apparent Gunshot Wound

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the identity of the 32-year-old officer who died Sunday from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to authorities, on Mar. 25th at approximately 8 p.m., the

Jersey City Police Department received a report of an officer shot in a Woodlawn Avenue residence.

Upon arrival, responding police officers found a male in a lifeless condition with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso.

The deceased, who has been identified as Jersey City Police Officer Ramon Torres, 32, was located in his first-floor of a Woodlawn Avenue home in Jersey City.

First responders administered aid to Torres until Emergency Medical Services transported him to the Jersey City Medical Center. Police said Torres was pronounced dead at JCMC shortly after 9 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Officer Torres.
