Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating a police pursuit that ended with several people injured on Friday night.
According to a statement released by police, at approximately 11:54 p.m., police attempted to pull a car over in the area of Second Street and Pine streets for various motor vehicle violations when the driver of the car sped away.
Police say the car driven by a 40-year-old Elizabeth resident crashed the vehicle at the four-way intersection causing damage to hit a total of 5 cars (2 occupied and 3 parked).
Police were able to apprehend the driver at the scene and charge him with second degree alluding, five counts of Second Degree aggravated assault, resisting arrest, second-degree possession of a handgun, and possession of hollow bullets.
Police say that the handgun was a stolen and they issued the driver numerous other motor vehicle offenses.
EMS transported the suspect to the hospital for accident-related injuries where doctors treated then released him to police.
According to police one of the cars struck during the pursuit was occupied by three residents from Rocky Mountain, North Carolina who all received treatment at Trinitas Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
