Police in Newark are reporting that members of the Newark Police Division’s Fugitive Apprehension Team and U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested Mr. Nathaniel Plummer, 32, of Belleville, for aggravated assault on a police officer in an incident that occurred on Sunday, February 18th.
According to police, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police in the area of Broadway, near Crane Street, were conducting a drug operation.
The officers observed a black 4-door Acura TL that was under investigation and attempted to approach the driver.
Police say the suspect escaped by driving his vehicle directly at a police sergeant, who fired his weapon due to the imminent threat to his life that of the other officers.
The Acura fled traveling south on Broadway. A police vehicle sustained damage to the front headlight and fender during this incident.
Detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to identify Plummer as a suspect in this incident and secured a warrant for his arrest.
Detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Plummer Friday in Belleville without incident.
Police charged Plummer with three counts each of Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Authorities also is charged him with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Eluding.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
