A Mercer County grand jury recently returned a 14-count indictment charging three men in connection with a shooting that occurred in October 2017 that killed 58-year-old Wilma Rutledge and wounded a 14-year-old girl, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced.
Authorities indicted Zion Williams, 19, Rahein McInnis, 32, and Togbah Kpehe, 24, each with one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree aggravated assault, and numerous weapons offenses.
Additionally, McInnis and Togbah are each charged with one count of certain persons not to possess a firearm. All three remain in the Mercer County Correction Center.
Two juveniles are also charged in Rutledge’s homicide. Motions to waive jurisdiction to adult criminal court are pending.
The charges are a result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, specifically lead investigator Scott Peterson of the Trenton Police Department. Senior Assistant Prosecutor Heather Hadley presented the case to the grand jury.
Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The shooting incident occurred about 3:10 p.m. on October 6, 2017, at the intersection of Carver Lane and North Willow Street in Trenton.
EMS transported two shooting victims, Rutledge and a 14-year-old female, to the hospital by private means.
Police said Rutledge was pronounced dead at the hospital while the teenager sustained non-life threatening injuries.
