Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department announce that a bookkeeper for the Millburn Board of Education and head volleyball coach for the Millburn High School was arrested today on charges of touching a 14-year old female who was a member of the Impact Volleyball Club in Rahway.
Authorities charged Peter Nguyen, 50, of Edison, with two second degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child, sexual contact with the 14-year old female, one count for giving alcohol to the minor and one third degree count of aggravated criminal sexual contact.
An investigation began after the victim’s parents went to the Woodbridge Police Department and notified authorities.
Their investigation determined that the defendant on two separate occasions took the 14-year old to his home, supplied the minor with alcohol, and inappropriately sexually touched the victim.
During that time, the female was a member of the Impact Volleyball Club in Rahway, where Nguyen has been employed as a volleyball coach for approximately three years.
Police said Nguyen has worked as a bookkeeper in the business department at the Millburn Board of Education for approximately five years and has also been the head volleyball coach for the Millburn High School for approximately three years.
The defendant is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing scheduled for February 16, 2018.
The investigation is active and is continuing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Deon Mccall of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3652, or Detective Ryan Hoppock of the Woodbridge Police Department at (732) 634-7700, or Detective Jeffrey Tierney of the Edison Police Department at (732) 248-7400.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Nguyen are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
