Off-Duty New Brunswick Officer, Four Others Charged in Bar Fight

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department said today that an off-duty police officer and four others are facing criminal charges stemming from a fight inside a New Brunswick bar.

 

Authorities charged Anthony Jones, 23, an off-duty New Brunswick Police Officer from New Brunswick, James Sanders III, 22, of Piscataway, Ryan Marsi, 23, of New Brunswick, Steve Karasoulis, 24, of Edison, and Bryan Williams, 22, of North Brunswick, with aggravated assault in the third degree and riot in the fourth degree.

 

According to officials, the incident occurred on Jan. 21st inside the Golden Rail Tavern on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick.

 

The investigation was conducted by the New Brunswick Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit in conjunction with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

Officials said Anthony Jones, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, has been suspended from the New Brunswick Police Department without pay, as a result of the criminal charges brought against him.

 

The investigation is active and continuing.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against all defendants are merely accusations and all are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
