Police in Newark arrested Marcus Moore, 23, Enijah Sanders, 21, Ibn Holmes, 22, and Rodney Perry, 24, all of Newark, for weapons- and narcotics-related offenses bringing the total arrests since Thursday to 9 with seven guns recovered.
In a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, in response to citizen complaints, recent incidents of violence and intelligence gathered as part of ongoing investigations, police deployed members of the precinct Narcotics Enforcement Teams to specific locations.
Director Ambrose said while doing so, this morning, just before 2 am, 3rd Precinct NET members observed two males, one of whom was wanted for questioning by Major Crimes in connection to a shooting on January 24th.
The pair fled after observing approaching officers where they then threw a bag over a nearby fence.
Police said the bag contained a loaded handgun, that was recovered by the suspects, Holmes and Perry, who were quickly secured and handcuffed moments later without further incident.
Police charged Holmes with unlawful possession of a weapon which was reported stolen, possession of prohibited devices, receiving stolen property, obstruction and resisting arrest. Police charged Perry was with obstruction and resisting arrest.
According to Director Ambrose, on Thursday, January 25th, Special Enforcement Division detectives received a tip that there was someone with a gun near a home in the 100 block of Alexander Street.
Director Ambrose said detectives were deployed to the area where they arrested two suspects, Moore and West Orange resident Sanders with a loaded handgun.
Police charged both suspects with unlawful possession of a handgun.
Moore was also held on contempt charges stemming from outstanding warrants Director Ambrose said.
Police confiscated more than $845.00 from the suspects Director Ambrose said.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
