Authorities in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Aswald Seals 25, Mr. Aljabree Hicks, 18, Ms. Maribel Gonzalez-Bello, 38, and Mr. Terrance Nesbit, 32, all of Newark, for possession of weapons and various drug-related offenses.
According to a statement released by police, shortly after 7pm Saturday, officers from the 4th Precinct Narcotics Enforcement Team executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Chelsea Avenue.
Police recovered two handguns – one reported stolen, over 700 glassine envelops of heroin, several vials of cocaine, codeine, marijuana, drug paparaphanalia and over $1,600 cash authorities said.
Police charged Hicks, Gonzalez-Bello,and Nesbit with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of CDS – several counts, receiving stolen property and multiple other drug- and weapons-related offenses.
Authorities said each suspect has also been charged with contempt stemming from outstanding warrants.
In a separate incident, police said just after 8pm, officers from the 5th Precinct Narcotics Enforcement Team were dispatched to the area of Elizabeth Avenue and West Alpine Street on narcotics complaint.
Upon officers’arrival, they located a suspect found to be in possession of marijuana.
When officers initially attempted to handcuff the suspect, he allegedly struck one of them and attempted to flee.
Police quickly secured and handcuffed the suspect, later identified as A. Seals, without further incident.
Police said they found him in possession of a handgun as well as the drugs.
Police charged Seals with unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, possession of CDS as well as other weapons-related offenses.
“The Division’s Narcotics Enforcement Teams are working tirelessly throughout the city as they remove more guns from our streets. I commend them for their dedication and outstanding work,” said Director Ambrose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
