Paterson Two-Alarm Fire Destroys House

Paterson

Firefighters in Paterson battled a two-alarm fire that destroyed a home in the city overnight leaving one person possibly unaccounted for.

According to preliminary reports, the fire started shortly before midnight at 178 Fulton St. and due to the ferociousness of the fire, crews on arrival immediately called for a second alarm as fire engulfed the upper levels of the home.

Extreme cold temperatures made firefighting difficult, but crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring homes according to fire officials.

Residents in the area told authorities that they could not account for at least one person that occupied the home.

It took crews about two hours to control the fast morning fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
