A pursuit of several suspects who reportedly occupied a carjacked vehicle in Paterson had police apprehend several males then locate weapons inside the car.
Police attempted to pull the vehicle over at around 1 a.m. after a registration check indicated that the car was involved in a reported carjacking that occurred in the city.
The driver of the vehicle sped away ignoring officers' lights and sirens according to preliminary reports.
Several suspects bailed from the vehicle in the vicinity of Godwin and Rosa Parks Boulevard where a brief foot pursuit has officers capture three suspects.
When police searched the vehicle, they said a rifle with more than two dozen rounds of ammunition was located along with a handgun possibly used in robberies that occurred in several incidents around the city.
There were no serious injuries reported.
Police are continuing to investigate.
