Police in Toms River has identified a man killed by a car Friday evening .
Accoridng to a statement released by police, at approximately 6:30 pm, police and medical units responded to Water Street near the intersection with Robbins Parkway.
Police said upon their arrival, it was determined that a 73-year-old Manchester man had been struck by a vehicle.
EMS rushed the man to Community Medical Center where he died a short time later.
Traffic Officer Pascal Gambardella’s initial investigation determined that Mr. James Icklan attempted to cross Water Street in a southern direction at Robbins Parkway, in the crosswalk, and was subsequently struck by a 2003 Isuzu.
Police said the Isuzu, operated by 51-year-old Carlos Irizarry of Toms River, was traveling East on Water Street.
As Irizarrys vehicle entered the intersection he struck Mr. Icklan, who was apparently crossing against his pedestrian indicator signal police said.
A witness at the scene provided helpful information as to the initial causation of the incident.
