Cranford firefighters with assistance from surrounding municipalities are on the scene of a fire that ignited inside a house in the city this morning.
Fire broke out 421 Brookside Place shortly before 6 a.m. sending crews to the scene where they observed heavy fire coming from the home according to preliminary reports.
Crews were able to knock down much of the blaze in less than a half hour before they performed a search of the home for injured and trapped occupants.
One person was pronounced dead inside the house according to reports.
Police also recovered the remains of a dog inside the residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
