Newark Shooting Suspect Apprehended

A 25-year-old Newark man wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on Dec. 1st, has been arrested.

According to police, at approximately 2:20 a.m., police responded to Fabyan Place, near Beverly Street, on a call of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the male victim who told them that a man got out of a vehicle, approached him and shot him after the shooter allegedly questioned him.

The victim was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify Raymond Williams as a suspect in this shooting and secured a warrant for his arrest.

Police arrested Raymond yesterday on the 800-block of South 17th Street after the officer recognized him from a flyer provided at the 5th Precinct.

Authorities charged Raymond with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
