Shell casings were found in the area of a school and a church forcing officials to go into a lockdown mode after gunfire rang out on Friday morning in Newark.
Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Bright Courts, at around 11:30 a.m., where officers arrived and found evidence that a shooting occurred but police did not locate a victim.
According to reports, a charter school in the area was placed in a lockdown status while police searched the area for possible suspects.
Officers canvassing the scene recovered shell casings, and other evidence reports said.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
